2016-17: Homelessness Budget Issues Before Conference Committee
In this section are letters and memos CWDA has submitted on homelessness issues the Conference Committee is taking up when they meet June 1, including the Homeless Assistance Program and the Los Angeles County Trailer Bill Language Proposal to Help Counties Combat Homelessness.
CalWORKs Homeless Assistance Program
CWDA and the Western Center on Law and Poverty (WCLP) support the Assembly action to lift the once in a lifetime restriction on the CalWORKs Homeless Assistance Program, making the assistance available once every 12 months. Homelessness and housing instability are critical barriers to self-sufficiency and to the health and well-being of children, families, and society, and addressing them is a priority for CWDA and WCLP. We support the proposal to modernize the program by eliminating the once-in-a-lifetime limitation
Los Angeles County Trailer Bill Language Proposal to Help Counties Combat Homelessness
CWDA respectfully requests support for trailer bill language that would provide counties with the authority to seek voter approval to impose a special tax on personal annual incomes over $1 million dollars for purposes of providing housing and services for homeless individuals and families.
